Peak Support Q&A: Brenda Poquette
In celebration of Peak Support’s anniversary month, I am featuring our Chief People Officer, Brenda. Honor the past, enjoy the present, and strive to improve tomorrow – that is Brenda’s motto. She pampers herself by going on fun mani-pedi dates with her granddaughters. What expensive item will she never buy? A luxury car! Although Brenda appreciates the quality and beauty of a pricey vehicle, she would much rather spend the money on a family vacation. When it comes to good food, she enjoys the delicious meals served at Big Sky, Wendigo, and Yeti’s. If she could, she’d love to have one more dinner with her dad. Want to know something heartwarming? Brenda started rock painting a few months ago as a way to relax and honor the memory of her daughter, Joslyn – who they lost to cancer in 2021. Read our latest Q&A blog now to learn more about Brenda.
When do you feel the most alive?
When I am in the presence of my family. I am a grandmother to seven amazing individuals who allow me to be who I am always. Nothing is more amazing than time with my grandchildren.
Is there a particular movie scene that always makes you cry?
Marley and Me. From the moment Marley enters the scene, the tissues begin to disappear.
Name something that scares other people but doesn’t frighten you.
Honesty. I feel many in our world today avoid hearing honest and open feelings.
When you want to unwind, do you prefer to be alone or hang out with people?
Both. I am a huge fan of my alone time, which is when I paint my rocks, but I also value the presence of others, and thrive when they are around.
If you were to give a public speech on something, what would it be about?
Grief. Losing a child has changed who I am as a person, and I did not know how to grieve. I have learned from others and myself that it is ok to talk about the person you lost and to honor them as you grieve. While grief makes others uncomfortable at times, it is an emotion you cannot outrun.
How do you handle failure?
Each failure is an opportunity to improve or create! You will never move forward if first you do not experience failure.
What word/sentence do you think most people say insincerely?
“How are you?” It has become generic, and rarely do people have time to listen to how a person truly feels. If you ask this question, you should also be prepared for the response you will receive.
Who would you take with you to see the Northern Lights?
My granddaughters Madison, Vivian, and Annalise. They are all fascinated by the concept of the Northern Lights.
Top 5 countries that you always wanted to visit.
- Israel
- Ireland
- Saint Kitts
- Egypt
- Malaysia
What’s something that you almost always find yourself procrastinating?
Taking time to myself.
Who would you like to get to know better?
Myself. I have changed dramatically over the years, and I feel I am just now understanding who I am.
When was the last time you felt excited about something?
I am excited each day. I find excitement in life, in the ability to help others, to leave an impression. I am very excited to remain relatively healthy and active.
What household chore are you not very good at?
Trick question – I am a clean FREAK in every sense of the word. I would say the one chore I am not good at is RESTING.
How do you usually celebrate the Fourth of July?
At the lake with family, enjoying the warm weather and reflecting on those things that allow us to celebrate this day and time in history.
